What is your name?

Hi, my name is Olivia Baxter.

Describe yourself.

I’m a caring, sporty and enthusiastic person.

How did you discover your skin cancer / melanoma / skin condition and how long ago?

I have a skin mole on my face which has been examined and is not a cancer but still needs to be watched for any change. This was discovered 6 years ago and I need to have another one soon. You shouldn’t take any risks with your skin.

What is your attitude towards sun protection today?

I usually wear a hat, put on sunglasses and apply sunscreen regularly.

What would you tell your 16-year-old self about sun protection?

I would tell my 16 year old self to take optimal care of your skin because it can be damaged, which can be life threatening. Being a red head girl I burn like crazy!

Thank you Olivia for helping raise awareness for skin cancer, melanoma and skin conditions, and sharing your story with us and our Solbari Community.

Most don't seem to understand the UV index, and how quickly you can get burnt in the middle of the day. There's still a long way to go for sun safety education!

It's all about awareness really, and people are aware, they just need to take it seriously and notice it more. Knowing the consequences and being mindful of how easy it is to avoid, life in general, being out and about, is much easier, happier and less painful.
