Solbari blog: Your Story Series: Meet Natalia

What is your name?

Hi, my name is Natalia Kelly.

Describe yourself.

Brave pursuer of Motherhood, grateful, ever improving.

What is your attitude towards sun protection today?

In my 20s I can remember laying in the sun, hour after hour, waiting for my timer to go off to alert me to flip over, like a piece of bacon roasting under a heat lamp in a diner. My mother, a survivor of melanoma and basal cell carcinoma, impressed upon me the importance of changing my attitude toward the sun and protecting myself.

Now I am a 36 year old mother of 2 and I am more safe than ever in the sun. We live in the Arizona desert and enjoy our pool time and ocean trips to Mexico. Covering ourselves is a top priority! I wear my Solbari hat day in and out, at the playgrounds, walking across parking lots while I run my kids around in the Arizona sunshine. It's a lot more fun to play outdoors while I know their skin and health is safe and well managed.

What would you tell your 16 year old self about sun protection?

Don't tan! You are beautiful just the way you are!

Thank you Natalia for helping raise awareness for skin cancer, melanoma and skin conditions, and sharing your story with us and our Solbari Community.
